More than a suburb
Diggers Rest began life in the 1800s as a stopping place on the road to the Bendigo goldfields. Today this convenient location provides residents with easy access to both country and city living.
This quiet yet vibrant suburb is steeped in local history. In 1910 in a Diggers Rest paddock, now Plumpton Park, famous escapologist Harry Houdini successfully took flight in a “flying machine.” Some 60 years later, the Sunbury Pop Festival (Australia’s own Woodstock) was held on a Diggers Rest farm along Jacksons Creek. Billy Thorpe, Daddy Cool and the Skyhooks were amongst the artists that performed to a crowd of thousands.
Now a residential haven, Alexander Park Estate was once farmland owned by the same family for seven decades. First migrating from Greece in 1939, this land has sustained four generations through sheep and wheat farming and now, a residential estate where many more families can create their own stories.
